I have been in the testing field for 35 years. For much of that time I have been thinking about the future. I did talks at conferences about the future of testing in 1999, 2000, 2003, 2010, 2013, 2017. In this keynote I will look back at the previous futures I reported, and try to make sense of them. Where was I right? How was I wrong? My career has focused on aspects of testing that are universal and timeless. So, for me, testing hasn't changed a whole lot since 1987, except I have gotten a lot better at explaining and teaching it. But all around us, the clients of testing have changed. The social context of testing has changed. There are new and different expectations being put on us. We have some new enemies-- some of whom call what they do "testing." Each of us must decide what to do about that. I'll share what I am doing.
